Indications

 

For the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection.

 

Usage and Dosage

 

n Adults: The recommended dosage is 600 mg combing with other antiretroviral drugs in separate 2-3 times; for exclusive use, the recommended dosage is 500 mg/day or 600 mg/day in several times; (100 mg every 4 hours while awake).

n Children: The recommended dosage for 3 months to 12 years old children is 180 mg/m2 body surface area every 6 hours (no more than 200 mg/m2).

n  Newborn: from 12 hours to 6 years old. Oral administration, 2 mg/kg/6 hours.

n  Patient supervision: the blood toxicity is related to the bone marrow state, drug dose and time of administration. For weak bone marrow fuction patients (especially AIDS patients), the anemia and leucopenia situation should be paid attention to. For patients with hematotoxicity, it usually occurs 2-4 weeks after administration. The leukopenia occurrs in 6-8 weeks.

n Dose adjustment: for obvious anemia (hemoglobin<7.5g/dl or with reduction of 25% off the baseline) or leucopenia (granulocyte count<750/m3 or reduction of 50% off the baseline), the dose needs to be adjusted until the bone marrow recovers. For not serious anemia and white cells-decrease patients, the dose needs to be reduced, for serious anemia and white cells-decrease patients, the dose needs to be reduced and transfusion is needed, after that, if the bone marrow recovers, the dose can be added gradually according to the bone marrow and drug tolerance condition. For patients with serious kidney disease that needs hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, the recommended dose is 100mg every 6-8 hours.
